category is JOY & HAPPINESS, which frankly is totally weather dependent. here is an unordered decontextualized list of recent observations that made me giggle or reflexively nod in approval
welcome to l’univers du poignet {the universe of the doorhandle}: an offshoot of the comédie française
a man reattaches his mustache before finishing the soup
floor length bubble gum parka with a rose gold reflective visor
little girl whose pink clip matches her pink headband. she has clipped her nose instead of her hair.
more pink: is it her ankle or is it tights? a baby whose face is the same color as her dad’s sunburn, except it’s not her face, it’s a knit cap
a shiba inu who is “very good at walking in a straight line”
an aging couple in matching/contrasting checks and stripes on their way to the park
little boy licks the aqua-green back of the bus seat et “non, ça suffit pas !”
the woman’s khaki green tights exactly match her coat and the green of the plaid in her scarf. the whole outfit is based on the scarf, which that acne scarf is definitely based on.
table lamps balanced on top of library stacks that only appear when the light is low enough
extremely cool aliens au bord de la seine and they wear matrix style glasses / coats, only b+w. i have seen the future and the future wears bucket hats.
a ring: thick hammered silver, as if constructed for exactly the finger that wears it, folds and all.
luxembourg in green, without people: snow in april

uncanny blueberry smoothie
Disbelieve that you have to feed (!!!) yourself (!!!!!!!!) multiple times per day, and then tell yourself, in adult, that you should eat more variety than just bread for every meal. In the morning, once you’ve started your coffee process, eyeball somewhere between 2tbs-1/4c oatmeal into the blender that was a hassle to acquire but fully worth its place on the shelf. {eta: do i need to defend the oats? makes the smoothie creamy (à la oatmilk) without the gumminess or carrageenans, plus way less onerous than making or eating regular oatmeal.} Add a heaping tsp of hempseeds, and blend—dry—until you no longer notice intact oats. At this point, you may decide to pour half into a bowl/jar for tomorrow’s smoothie. But evenutally, you proceed. you do not know how to say no to a walk, so to the blender add 10-15g Plant Fusion, Complete Protein, Creamy Vanilla Bean to support tired quadriceps or otherwise power a dawdling morning. this estimate is based on someone (ur mother) telling you that the human body can only absorb 20g of protein at a time.
This is shortly followed by first 4 or 5 ½ inch pieces of frozen banana, then 400 ml Vanilla Rice Milk, and finally 1/3 c frozen blueberries. The elite will add ground or freshly opened pods of cardamom, but everyone should immediately blend blend blend til it’s smooth like a smoothie ought to be. Pour into a mug, which is easier to clean than a glass. in the name of dishes are awful, fill your blender with water and some soap, and blend again before you put the blender base away. Drink up.
– read me
i’m starting pachinko, min jin lee because i like having something interminable to carry around with me. thick books are also helpful for rigging your computer into a ~slightly~ more ergonomic set up
up next: nina bouraoui – satisfaction.
– clap for me
tysm to laura + “the friend who sent her this” for sharing this joyful bagel chart : everyone gets bonus points for the 🎶 lauryn hill reference. new yorkers, you know what to do.
– don’t take me too seriously
🎶 rosalía – all of motomami is incredible, but esp saoko & chicken teriyaki
beauty inside (via netflix), v good until like half way through – i particularly enjoyed/scratched my head at how the various maladies afflicting the protagonists have absolutely zero to do with the logic of reality
🎶 trouble - DRB Lasgidi, Teezee, Boj, Fresh L., Tems
Howdy Anne, this is Gabriel Levine, friend of David. The younger 'Noff told me about your posts-from-France a little while back and I've quite enjoyed reading them. Saoko is a very fun song.
The decontextualized observations made for refreshing reading. Pinpoints of eccentricity shining like stars in a night sky.
I am, as of two months ago, living in Indianapolis, Indiana working at a battery manufacturing factory as my company scales up from R&D to production. I bring this up to say that there is a cast of characters one meets in Midwest Manufacturing that is quite distinct from those I met in my time in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, let alone an academic PhD experience in the US or France.
